The State Theatre Center for the Arts
in Easton, PA presents the annual STATE THEATRE FREDDY© Awards.
THE 2008 CEREMONY IS SET FOR THURSDAY, MAY 22 AT 7 PM, TELEVISED LIVE ON WFMZ CHANNEL
69!
This awards program is designed to recognize and reward exceptional
accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theatre in local high schools.
The ceremony is fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards. A panel of experienced
evaluators will view participating school's performances in the Lehigh Valley and Warren County, NJ and critique various
categories such as acting, singing, lighting, set design, etc. Nominations will be made in 18
award categories from all participating schools. These nominees will be announced
publicly and they will be our honored guests at the gala awards ceremony… The FREDDYs©!!!

EXPRESS-TIMES INTERNSHIP TO ACCOMPANY STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD The Express-Times, sponsor of the 2008 FREDDY Awards, will once again offer a paid summer internship to the recipient of the 2008 Student Achievement Award, which is announced at the FREDDY© Awards Ceremony. The Express-Times is dedicated to matching the skills of the student with the company’s needs. Therefore, aspects of the internship could include writing/reviewing, photography/illustration, layout/design, marketing or business, depending on the student’s strengths and interests. Teachers in participating schools are invited to make recommendations for students who have given their time and talent towards their production in a backstage capacity, such as a stage manager, stage crew, scenic design, student/assistant directors and choreographers and have consistently demonstrated a positive work ethic. Applications have been included with the 2008 FREDDY© Awards Applications and Guidelines, distributed to the schools.
ALLENTOWN AREA SWING DANCE SOCIETY - $500 cash award to the school that receives the 2008 FREDDY© for Outstanding Choreography
WILSON BLACK PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP - FREDDY© Photographer Wilson Black offers a $500 scholarship to a student majoring in technical theatre.

KIWANIS TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
 For the fourth year, on behalf of Area Kiwanis Clubs, the school that is award the 2008 FREDDY© for Outstanding Stage Crew will receive $1,000 cash to be used towards next year's musical budget. In addition, all other schools nominated in the Outstanding Stage Crew category, will receive a $200 cash award. Any remaining funds will be donated directly to the FREDDY© Awards program.
Supporting Kiwanis Clubs for 2008 include: Allentown, Allentown Northeast, Allentown Salisbury, Bethlehem, Easton, Emmaus, Forks Township, Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, LT. Governor Division 17 Kathy Heller, Palmer Township, Phillipsburg NJ, Southern Lehigh and Washington NJ.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
